Reflection of Holy Week and Mary

This Holy Week, I feel it in my bones.

I had a lot of windshield time yesterday and my heart ached as I recalled the verses surrounding this Holy Week and its true meaning.

As a mom who has buried children, I know the ache of loss. The kind that never fully goes away. But I have never experienced it the way Mary did—watching it happen. Standing there. Unable to stop it.

I read about the Cross, or sing about the Cross, and I cry every single time.

Really think about this. She watched her baby—God’s Son—beaten, bruised, and crucified. She stood near, silent and shattered, as the weight of our sin fell upon Him.

“Near the cross of Jesus stood his mother…” —John 19:25

She didn’t run.

She didn’t turn away.

She stayed, even when it broke her heart.

I think of what she must have felt—the confusion, the horror, the sorrow.

“And a sword will pierce your own soul too.” —Luke 2:35

That prophecy spoken over her came true in the most unimaginable way.

This week isn’t just tradition. It’s remembrance.

Remembrance of a love so deep, it gave everything.

Remembrance of a sacrifice none of us could ever make.

“Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” —John 15:13

He laid His life down for you. For me. For our children.

He died so we could live.

Reflective Thoughts:

Mary stood at the foot of the cross. Could I have?

The pain of a mother’s heart is seen in the shadow of the cross.

Holy Week isn’t just history—it’s holy ground.

He died for us while we were still sinners. That’s love.

Jesus was pierced so we could be healed.

The tomb couldn’t hold Him. And because of that—we have hope.

This week, let the cross wreck you… then let the resurrection restore you.

Holding space this week for every grieving mom. And holding tight to the Savior who brings beauty from the broken.
